Utensils:
Kitchen Knife
Cookie Sheet lined with Aluminum Foil
Mixing Spoon
Fork
Pastry Brush
Aluminum Foil
Oven Mitts
One Large Mixing Bowl
Ingredients:
Five or Six Granny Smith Apples, peeled, sliced thinly
Sugar
Brown Sugar
Salt
One Egg, slightly beaten
One Fresh Lemon
Cinnamon
Nutmeg
Pumpkin Pie Spice
Allspice
All-Purpose Flour
Butter or Margarine
One package Frozen Pie Shells, I use the nine inch ones (Sit the pie shells out while preparing the pie)
Vanilla Ice Cream (optional)
Directions:
Place the sliced Granny Smith Apples into the large mixing bowl, add about one half cup sugar, about one half cup of brown sugar, a pinch of salt, one teaspoon fresh lemon juice, one teaspoon cinnamon, one half teaspoon nutmeg, one half teaspoon pumpkin pie spice, and about one fourth of a teaspoon of the allspice. Gently stir the ingredients. Do not worry if it looks like that you have too many apple slices, you do not. Add about one fourth cup of all-purpose flour to the apple mixture and gently stir.
Open the pie shells and place one of them on the cookie tray. Spoon the apple pie mixture into the pie shell, using all of it. Place some slices of the butter or margarine on top of the apple slices, about five to six pieces.
Take the second pie shell out of it's aluminum foil pie pan and place it on top of the sliced apple mixture. Take a fork and crimp the edges of the pie shells together. Take the knife and make small air vents in the top of the pie.
Using the pastry brush, brush the top of the apple pie with the beaten egg. Bake the Apple Pie in a 425
degrees oven for twelve minutes, then turn the oven temperature down to 350 degrees for around thirty five
to forty five minutes, until the apples are fork tender inside of the pie. Remove the pie from the oven and let
it stand at least an hour or so before trying to slice it. The longer you let the pie cool, the easier it will be to slice it.
*Note: If you notice the edges of the pie getting too browned while baking, cover pie slightly with the aluminum foil.
The apple pie tends to spill out while baking, so be sure to use the cookie tray to catch the mess of any apple mixture.
