What is your favorite tailgating food? Is it chili, hot dogs, hot wings,
chicken, burgers, sausages, bbq or sub sandwiches? After you have
decided what the main course is going to be, it is time to choose
a couple of side dishes. After that comes the drinks and finally
dessert.
Or are you the type that likes to tailgate the easier way with food such
as a veggie tray, cheese dip and some chips and salsa, of course
do not forget about the different kinds of trail mixes to be made.
Football Cake:
Prepare the Football Cake a couple of days before when you are
planning on tailgating.
Utensils:
Football Shaped Cake Pan or Cake Pan (and cut out the shape of a football)
Electric Mixer
Large Mixing Bowl
Measuring Cups
Decorating Bags
Decorating Tips: #3 & #16
Large Mixing Bowl for Brown Colored Icing
Spoons
Cardboard (big enough to fit the cake on)
Aluminum Foil
Cooling Tray
Scissors
Large Kitchen Knife
Off Set Spatula for Icing Cake
Ingredients:
1 Box of your Favorite Cake Mix
Eggs
Oil
Water (always use cold water)
Crisco
Brown Food Paste Color
*Note: Just use the dry cake mix to flour the baking pan with, that way
you do not have any gross tasting lumps of flour on the cake!
1 Recipe Buttercream Icing (recipe for icing is on my blog)
Directions:
Preheat the oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour the cake pan and set aside. Prepare the cake mix according to the package directions. Bake the cake around 35 minutes and place on cooling tray. Let the cake cool for about 10 - 15 minutes before trying to remove from the baking pan.
Cover a piece of cardboard with aluminum foil. Trim the top of the cake so that it will lay flat on the cardboard. Frost the cake smooth with brown colored icing. Fit a decorating bag with tip #16 and pipe stars all over the football cake. Fit another decorating bag with tip #3 and pipe the seams of the football on the cake. The football cake ought to be small enough to fit into a cake carrier to carry with you to the tailgating event.
