The utensils that you will need to prepare the Meatloaf are as follows:
One Large Mixing Bowl
One Large Oven Proof Casserole Dish
Can Opener
Oven Mitts
One Sharp Knife
Aluminum Foil
Kitchen Towel
Two to Three pounds Hamburger Meat, or Ground Turkey Meat
Eggs
One package shredded Cheese, such as Mozzarella or Pepper Jack
Your favorite veggie, I use broccoli a lot, also fresh tomatoes, asparagus and sausage
One individual package of Instant Grits
One can Tomato Sauce
One Garlic Bulb, peeled, minced
Salt and Black Pepper to taste
One package Meatloaf Seasoning
One small Onion, peeled, diced finely
One Green Bell Pepper, washed, seeds removed, diced finely
Vegetable Oil for greasing the casserole dish
Chili Powder
In the large mixing bowl, combine the hamburger meat or the ground turkey meat, one egg, instant grits, about a forth of a can of the tomato sauce, minced garlic, the seasonings, onion, green bell pepper and about half of a teaspoon of the chili powder. Mix the meat mixture with clean fingers.
Wash your hands and dry them.
Lightly grease the oven proof casserole dish. Take the Meatloaf mixture and half it. With your hands, patty the meat mixture into an oval shaped meat patty. Place the Meatloaf in the casserole dish. Now take the ingredients that you will be putting into the middle part of the Meatloaf. For example, shredded cheese, chopped broccoli, and/or the sausage. Press the ingredients lightly onto the Meat patty, not wanting to get close to the edges of the Meat patty. Take the remaining half of the Meat mixture and patty it out to make it the same size oval Meat patty as you did with the bottom half of it. Lay the top Meat patty on top of the ingredients. Use your fingers to press the sides of the Meatloaf closed together while baking. A fork works good for this as well.
Bake the Meatloaf in a 350 degree oven for about forty-five minutes, covered with aluminum foil. If using the hamburger meat, drain the grease from the casserole dish. Pour the rest of the tomato sauce over the top of the Meatloaf and return it back to the oven uncovered for about five to seven minutes, just until the tomato sauce is warm on the top of the Meatloaf. Remove the Meatloaf from the oven and let it rest for about fifteen to twenty minutes before slicing.
